The NPPL has mandated that barrel socks will be used in place of barrel plugs. The reason is that a barrel plug can be shot out of gun, leaving it unsafe. These socks fit over the barrel and are held on by a strap that is fastened to the gun. It doesn't matter if you shoot 1 or 20 balls into it, it will stay in place. Another nice feature is that the balls wont be busting inside your barrel. Worst case, they bust on the very tip which is a lot easier to clean out if you're about to start the game.
